1. Summary

Your pages stay on your phone. Scanning, page detection, text recognition and QR/barcode reading all run on your device. We never receive your scans, their text or what a QR code contains.
No account. You do not sign up, and we hold no profile about you.
Ads are provided by Google AdMob. Google collects device identifiers and related data to show and measure ads. In the EU, EEA and UK you are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown.
PerliScan Pro is bought through Google Play. We never see your card or payment details.

2. Who we are

PerliScan is published by Perlicom Systems Limited, a company registered in Ireland under company number 546999 ("we", "us"). For the limited personal data that we process ourselves (see sections 6 and 7) we are the data controller. Contact: support@perlicom.com.

Google acts as an independent controller for the data its advertising, ML Kit and Google Play services collect, under Google's own privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).

3. Scanning happens on your device

Camera. PerliScan asks for the camera permission only so you can scan. The camera preview and the photos it takes are processed on the phone.
Google ML Kit. The document scanner (edge detection, cropping, importing an existing photo), text recognition ("Scan text") and barcode/QR reading ("Scan QR") use Google's ML Kit libraries, which run their models on the device. Page images, recognised text and QR contents are not uploaded to us or to Google.
Your documents. Scans and the PDF, JPEG, PNG or TIFF files you create are stored in the app's storage on your phone until you delete them or uninstall the app. When you share a file, it goes to the app you pick (e-mail, WhatsApp and so on) and is then handled under that app's privacy policy.
Links in QR codes. If you choose to open a link read from a QR code, it opens in your browser; the website you visit sees your request as normal.

4. Data collected by Google services in the app

4.1 Google AdMob (advertising)

The free version of PerliScan shows ads served by Google AdMob. To choose, deliver and measure ads and to prevent ad fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and sends to Google:

device identifiers: the Android advertising ID and the app set ID;
your IP address, from which an approximate location (for example, country or city) is derived. PerliScan does not request GPS or precise location;
ad interactions: which ads were shown, viewed and tapped, and app launches;
diagnostics and crash data from the ads SDK, and basic device and app information (device model, Android version, app version, language).

Consent in the EU, EEA and UK. Before ads load in these regions, the app shows Google's consent message (Google's User Messaging Platform, which follows the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework). If you do not consent to personalised ads, Google shows non-personalised or limited ads, which still use data for purposes such as frequency capping, measurement and fraud prevention. To change your choice later, open PerliScan Settings > Privacy > Privacy & ad choices (shown in these regions). You can also clear the app's storage (Android Settings > Apps > PerliScan > Storage > Clear storage); the consent message is shown again the next time ads load. Clearing storage also deletes scans saved inside the app, so share or save any you need first.

Advertising ID controls. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, at any time in Android Settings (on most phones: Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy > Ads, or Settings > Google > Ads). You can also manage Google ad personalisation at myadcenter.google.com.

Buying PerliScan Pro removes all ads, so no further ads are requested for your device.

4.2 Google ML Kit diagnostics

Although ML Kit processes your pages on the device, the ML Kit libraries send Google usage metrics and diagnostics (for example device model, Android version, app package name and version, a per-installation identifier, and performance and error information) so Google can maintain and improve them. They do not include your page images, recognised text or QR contents.

4.3 Google Play Billing (PerliScan Pro)

PerliScan Pro is a one-off in-app purchase handled entirely by Google Play. Google processes your payment under the Google Payments privacy notice. We never receive your card or bank details. The app checks the purchase on your device. Google gives us a limited order record through the Google Play Console (such as an order number, date, product, price and country, but not your name or payment details), which we use for accounting, tax and refunds.

5. Our own connections

Update check. The app fetches a small version file from assistant.perlicom.com to see whether a newer version exists. The request carries no identifier, account or device ID; like any web request, our server sees your IP address and a standard user-agent, which appear only in short-lived server logs kept for security and troubleshooting.
Printing. When you print, the app finds printers on your local network (mDNS) and sends the pages directly to the printer you choose (IPP). Printing never goes through our servers or any third party.
Optional usage statistics. Settings contains an option to count which features you use. It is off by default. If you switch it on, the counts are stored only on your phone and are not sent to us or anyone else. Switching it off erases them.

We do not operate an account system for PerliScan, and we do not receive or store your scans, contacts, photos, files or location.

6. What we hold, why, and our lawful bases

Retention. Order records are kept as long as Irish tax law requires (currently six years). Support e-mails are kept while needed to deal with your request and then deleted. Server logs are rotated after a short period. Data collected by Google is retained under Google's policies.

International transfers. Google may process data outside the EEA. Google relies on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses for such transfers.

Security. All network connections made by the app use encryption (HTTPS/TLS), including connections to printers where the printer supports it.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your scans for advertising or any other purpose.

7. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU, EEA or UK you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your personal data, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing before the withdrawal). Because we hold almost no data about you, most requests will concern Google: you can exercise them directly through your Google account and Android ad settings, or e-mail us at support@perlicom.com and we will help. We reply within one month.

You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (www.dataprotection.ie) or with the supervisory authority where you live or work.

8. California privacy rights (CCPA / CPRA)

In the last 12 months, the following categories of personal information were collected through PerliScan, by Google's SDKs: identifiers (advertising ID, app set ID, IP address, a per-installation ID); internet or other electronic network activity (ad views and taps, diagnostics); approximate geolocation derived from IP address; and, if you buy Pro, commercial information (the purchase record). No sensitive personal information is collected.

Sale and sharing. We do not sell personal information for money. However, because the free app uses Google AdMob, the disclosure of identifiers, ad interactions and approximate location to Google for personalised advertising may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising, and may be considered a "sale" under the CCPA's broad definition. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.

Your choices. You can opt out of this sale or sharing by deleting your advertising ID or turning on "opt out of ads personalisation" in your Android ad settings (see 4.1), by buying PerliScan Pro (which removes ads), or by e-mailing support@perlicom.com with the subject "Do Not Sell or Share". You also have the right to know and access, delete and correct your personal information, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we have none). We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. An authorised agent may make a request on your behalf; we may ask for proof of authorisation.

9. Children

PerliScan is intended for adults and is not directed at children or anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has used the app and data has been collected about them, contact us at support@perlicom.com and we will help you have it removed.

10. Changes to this policy

We will update this page if the app or the law changes, and change the effective date above. If a change materially affects how your data is used, we will also tell you in the app or on the Google Play listing.
